Robert Maxwell – Member in Focus #30

Interview with Robert Maxwell from Let’s Do

Tell us a bit about yourself and/or your organisation.

My name is Rob,  I am an amputee ex-serviceman and the founding member of a charity called Let’s Do. We cater for folk from all walks of life to help them come to terms with their disability through events and trips etc. We were primarily ex-service but we cover NHS / support staff really any one! If you fancy the out doors and want to learn fishing or gardening then we are here for you!

How well have you/your organisation adapted to the pandemic?

We have continually re-accessed our outreach, how we perceive what we do and how best to deliver it. We can easily operate here at Kennedy’s lake and socially distance as well.
How well have people/organisations in your area collaborated throughout the pandemic?
We have had some but not as many as we would like hopefully this wonderful group will change that so many more will benefit.
What key needs are becoming apparent and/or are likely to arise this year?
Personal mental health and helping to lift peoples mood both now and post-COVID. A great many folk are facing a rapid change in life style and routine we are hoping to reach out to folk in this area.
ASK: What do you need, right now, that the members of Community Network NI and/or the wider community may be able to help you with?
We would like a person who has a Skippers boat qualification, we need to train 2 x volunteers to be better equipped in mental health situations and we need funding / sponsorship .

OFFER: What support are you currently offering and are you open to members of Community Network NI and/or the wider community making contact?

We are open to all – we can provide overnight camping and we can accommodate in our lake side lodge 3 x beds. We can provide fishing equipment for groups up to 12 persons pending suitable government guidance as per requirement. We are disabled friendly and have catering / toilet facilities here at Kennedy’s Lake. We also have a sister facility at Killough which we hope to open very soon.
